The Full Picture

For KICKS approached Adrenaline looking for some minor web development. After initial discovery, the Adrenaline team agreed that the effort was worth the focus of our resources. All the funds go to the effort, there was zero administrative expense. On this basis we offered our services without fee. Our aim was to pave the way to extend their profile both locally and internationally. For KICKS had executed legwork exposing the program to a variety of munipal, provincial, and international sponsors as well as to partners for funding. The program was, and is a resounding success. Adrenaline directed efforts in collaboration with For KICKS to create the brand, as well as develop and produce an effective way to support the ongoing efforts.

Branding

For branding, Adrenaline recommended a logo to solidify the identity of the organization. Although For KICKS is not limited to soccer, the name of the program is a play on the common slang, "just for kicks". Adrenaline developed several logo themes, honing in on the soccer motif combined with a youth motif. The final version features a sketch-like rendition of a youth playing soccer with the For KICKS wordmark beside him.

Community Inspiration and Awareness

To both support and increase awareness of the program, Adrenaline recommended a web site that included clear information about the program as well as a blog and events section to engage the community. The blog illustrates the effective benefits of the program by highlighting initiatives in the past. The Events section highlights upcoming events that people can register and participate in.

The site also highlights the large community of volunteers, sponsors, partners, and associates that help make the For KICKS program possible.

All the people who make this program possible, and all the blogs about the program's succes will, we hope, inspire others to participate in this program to help at risk youth and improve communties everywhere.

The Toolbox

Adrenaline used the following key elements for the For KICKS website:

The Content Management System

A content management system, often referred to as a CMS, is a system that allows individuals who are not programmers to manage the content of the web site. Tasks include change, add, and delete content (text and graphic) as well as add or remove pages as needed. This is done by logging into the system through a browser. The content management is simple and quick, making changes much like you would if you were editing a Word document. With an hours worth of training, anyone can manage the content of a web site using the CMS we designed. The CMS model empowers our clients and allows them to make changes quickly and easily without additional costs. Alternately some clients prefer that we make changes. Our CMS speeds up those changes and saves costs in this model as well.

Because the system abstracts content from presentation, another great benefit of using a CMS is that should an organization opt for a new design there is no need to start from the ground up and redo the entire site. We are able to program a new look and use the existing content as well as easily modify the existing content. It's a return on investment that you may not see immediately, but over time it will pay for itself over and over again.

The Custom Events System

When it came to event listing, Adrenaline wanted it to be as easy as possible for the For KICKS team to manage. We programmed the CMS so that events could be easily entered, including the name, description, date(s), and participants. Users simply login, create a new event, and enter the information in the relevant form fields, including when the event is to be first published and when the event is to be unpublished. The events page automatically displays the published events by order of the starting date and automatically creates the links to the full event description page. In addition, the most recent upcoming events are listed in the sidebar of many pages automatically as well.

The Blog System

Like the events system, the blog system was programmed in the CMS so that For KICKS can add new entries and publish and unpublish old entries easily. Users login and create a new blog entry, input the content into a WYSIWYG editor and the entries appear automatically on the main blog page, complete with links to the full blog, ordered by date of publication. The two latest blog entries also automatically appear on the home page. Blogs are great for illustrating what an organization is all about and they also have the benefit of increasing a sites SEO (Search Engine Optimization).

Copywriting

Writing copy that delivers a clear message is a difficult thing to do. Adrenaline assisted For KICKS with copywriting by sitting down and asking questions about the organization to find out what For KICKS is truly all about and what goals they wish to acheive. We took that information and came up with copy that lets everyone know exactly what For KICKS is, does, and has done.
