Charity Greetings: The Snapshot
Charity Greetings wanted a site to sell bulk greeting cards to businesses to express client appreciation. A shopping cart system was required to enable customers to select their greeting cards and the options they wanted, such as the greeting to be included, the charity that proceeds are donated to, the use of their own logo, and other options.
In addition, they wanted a site they could manage and which was scalable for future growth for adding more cards, more products, and more holidays.
Adrenaline helped create the web site by:
- Building the site with a Content Management System so Charity Greetings can update the site themselves
- Desiging the site based on the design of the cards
- Building a custom, scalable Product System to manage existing and new products and categories
- Building a custom, manageable Gallery system for the products
- Recommending a professional hosting package
- Setting up an eCommerce system with secure credit card processing, automatic email notices, and shipping calculations
- Collaborating on promotions outside the web by designing an innovative, greeting card based promotion

The Full Picture
Charity Greetings engaged Adrenaline to enter the often murky world of eCommerce. Adrenaline researched a number of different solutions and decided to go with a customized CMS solution combined with a hosted checkout system. Alternatives included typical cookie-cutter shopping cart system but such system can be difficult and costly to customize to particular needs, depending on the nature of the eStore.
eCommerce
Charity Greetings wanted to sell the cards online. Adrenaline researched numerous approaches to an eCommerce solution. Charity Greetings needed the ability to receive payment via credit card, charge appropriate shipping rates based on location and volume, charge appropriate tax rates based on customer location, give existing customers an account to make future purchases easy, the ability to administer current and new products as well as keep track of all sales. Adrenaline met all of these needs by building a custom product system in our CMS of choice and integrating it with a subscription based checkout system.
Custom Product System
Adrenaline built a custom product system that is both scalable and easy to manage for the staff at Charity Greetings. Product name, price, code, weight, description, image, and category are all available in a web-based interface that automatically ties into a custom built promotion system. At launch Charity Greetings is selling Christmas Holiday cards. In the future, additional categories can be easily added, such as cards for the New Year, Thanksgiving, or other holidays.
Product Gallery
Because customers are free to choose from a number of different card designs, Adrenaline developed a product gallery system to help customers select their design of choice by enabling them to see all the designs at once and selecting a design of interest to view an enlarged version. Users can buy a design from within the product gallery itself. The galleries for each product can be managed by Charity Greetings with only a little training. Images can be replaced, removed, and added, complete with a description and a link to buy the product. When Charity Greetings creates a new product, the image for it is automatically added to the master gallery. Furthermore, on the product page itself, customers can still view an enlarged version of the design they've selected.
Promotional Card
In addition to the site itself, Adrenaline collaborated with Charity Greetings to design a promotional Greeting Card that illustrates what Charity Greetings is all about.

- A Content Management System
The Content Management System
A content management system, often referred to as a CMS, is a system that allows individuals who are not programmers to manage the content of the web site. Tasks include change, add, and delete content (text and graphic) as well as add or remove pages as needed. This is done by logging into the system through a browser. The content management is simple and quick, making changes much like you would if you were editing a Word document. With an hours worth of training, anyone can manage the content of a web site using the CMS we designed. The CMS model empowers our clients and allows them to make changes quickly and easily without additional costs. Alternately some clients prefer that we make changes. Our CMS speeds up those changes and saves costs in this model as well.
Content Management Systems also serve as a base to introduce customized functionality. In the case of Charity Greetings we developed a product, gallery, and category system that is administered within the CMS and connects to the hosted checkout system.
Because the system abstracts content from presentation, another great benefit of using a CMS is that should an organization opt for a new design there is no need to start from the ground up and redo the entire site. We are able to program a new look and use the existing content as well as easily modify the existing content. It's a return on investment that you may not see immediately, but over time it will pay for itself over and over again.
