Dragonfly Press: The Snapshot
Dragonfly Press came to Adrenaline to have a site built in order to support awareness of the new company as well as sell the first book, the Circle, online.
Adrenaline helped create the web site by:

- Setting up an eCommerce system to allow Dragonfly Press to sell products online
- Building the site with a Content Management System so Dragonfly Press can update the site themselves
- Setting up a Payment Gateway, Shipping, and Taxes according to a variety of requirements

The Full Picture
Dragonfly Press approached Adrenaline to create a web site that included online sales. The message and brand already existed. We discussed the brand and the objectives of the company as well as anticipated eCommerce sales and decided to build a site that was simple and clean, like the brand, as well as develop an easy to use eCommerce component that fits their current and future needs.
Design
The Dragonfly brand was well defined for print. Our team collaborated with Dragonfly in translating their print design to the the Internet. The design that resulted reflects the emphasis on simplicity and cleanliness. We utilizing powerful environmental focused images in the header, and a clean compact layout, reflecting the idea of efficiency and practicality.
Online Sales
Dragonfly Press wanted to sell their first book, and all subsequent books and products, online. Adrenaline and Dragonfly discussed numerous approaches to an eCommerce solution. Dragonfly's needs were varied: the ability to receive payment via credit card, charge appropriate shipping rates based on location and volume, charge appropriate tax rates based on customer location, give existing customers an account to make future purchases easy as well as enabling customers to view past transactions, the ability to administer current and new products as well as keep track of all sales. Adrenaline met all of these needs by using an open source, user friendly eCommerce solution that integrates with our CMS.
The Toolbox
Adrenaline used the following key elements for the Dragonfly website:
- A Content Management System
- An eCommerce Management System
The Content Management System
A content management system, often referred to as a CMS, is a system that allows individuals who are not programmers to manage the content of the web site. Tasks include change, add, and delete content (text and graphic) as well as add or remove pages as needed. This is done by logging into the system through a browser. The content management is simple and quick, making changes much like you would if you were editing a Word document. With an hours worth of training, anyone can manage the content of a web site using the CMS we designed. The CMS model empowers our clients and allows them to make changes quickly and easily without additional costs. Alternately some clients prefer that we make changes. Our CMS speeds up those changes and saves costs in this model as well.
Because the system abstracts content from presentation, another great benefit of using a CMS is that should an organization opt for a new design there is no need to start from the ground up and redo the entire site. We are able to program a new look and use the existing content as well as easily modify the existing content. It's a return on investment that you may not see immediately, but over time it will pay for itself over and over again.
The eCommerce Content Management System
An eCommerce content management system, often referred to as an eCMS, is system that allows companies to manage and sell products, including categories, pricing, product attributes (such as colour, size, grade) stock, taxes, and shipping. Like a standard CMS, an eCMS is used by logging into the management interface and managing products through your web browser. You can change prices, add new products and categories, manage inventory, view sales, setup shipping rates, highlight products, place products on sale, and many other tasks that are essential to a rewarding online sales experience for both customer and vendor.
