Robert Munsch Donates Unpublished Story to The Children of Bukati Project
Toronto, ON - June 16th, 2009 - The Children of Bukati Project, one of the charities that Adrenaline Communications supports, was vaulted when the acclaimed children’s author donated an unpublished story, which garnered front page coverate on the Toronto Star.
Braids, by Robert Munsch, was donated to eight-year-old Taya Kendall who started a school newspaper to raise money for Children of Bukati. The book is illustrated by students from Sir Isaac Brock Public School in Guelph, Ontario.
Braids was launched on June 16, 2009, the International Day of the African Child. All proceeds from the sale of Braids will go to the Children of Bukati, founded by University of Guelph professor, Dr. Cate Dewey. This foundation is supporting the education of AIDS orphans and destitute children in the rural community of Butula, Western Kenya. Funds raised for the Children of Bukati foundation are used to provide pencils, uniforms and a lunch program for the children. Currently children in kindergarten, grade 1 and 2 are eating 5 days a week. Older children are fed 4 days a week. On many days, this is the only food the children eat. When sufficient funds are raised, the older children will also be fed 5 days a week.
Braids is available in stores and online in partnership with New Internationalist.
“Well, it started out with Taya, who looked like a good fit for the story.” says Robert Munsch “Taya wanted to put it in her school newspaper, and then wanted to put it out as a book. The idea just grew and grew.”
